About Us

What Is The Inter-Community Council?

The Inter-Community Council is a Resident organization for public housing families inspiring and improving their quality of life.

The Inter-Community Council was formed in 1973. Two representatives from each housing community served on this advisory group to housing management and resident services departments. Working together, residents and staff identified and resolved common issues among the AHA neighborhoods.
ICC has expanded its role to meet the needs and concerns of public housing families.

In the beginning, ICC had no office space, no phone service, no office equipment or furniture. Thanks to a partnership with the Athens Housing Authority, ICC now has adequate office space and services, paid part time staff and is incorporated. These generous contributions have allowed ICC to become more self sufficient to serve our residents.

Today more than 75 residents represent their communities and meet monthly to address neighborhood issues, plan events and provide support and training to AHA residents.
